In Māori tradition, Tāwhirimātea(god of weather), is the son of Ranginui (Sky Father) and Papatūānuku (Earth Mother). Following the separation of his parents, he created numerous offspring to represent various weather phenomena, including the four main winds, rain, clouds, mists, and storms, which he sent to attack his brothers.
